Jackson

Lani & I have made a Lightning McQueen cake for Jackson before. This year Jackson turns 6, and is fighting a brain tumor. He's truly an amazing boy & we were so excited to do another cars cake for him. This is the scene he wanted us to re-create. It's from the original Cars movie when lightning McQueen gets a racing lesson from Doc. All the cars are made from gum paste...it was so much fun to re-create...and i got to use my new airbrush for something besides a black piano :) It was awesome! HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACKSON!!!!! ps look for the link to Jackson's blog and follow his fight against cancer. He and his family are an inspiration.

Carlee & Carson turn 4!

Wow! I can't believe my neighbor's twins are four. This is the third cake I've made them. I didn't have much time or I would have tried to make Iron man out of gum paste. My sister, Lani, made the cutest puppies. This is the first time they've each chosen their own theme...I think four year olds are hilarious.

Ali's "wedding" cake

I asked my niece Ali if we could make her birthday cake. She just turned 10 & I've had an idea popping around in my brain for a while for her... a zebra stripe and flower tier cake. I asked Marci how many people it needed to feed & her response was...oh..about 35 Welches, Oversons, & friends. My response was so....wedding cake size...(tongue and cheek). I didn't know that Ali's favorite thing is weddings. Marci says she told all her friends that her aunts were making her a wedding cake for her birthday. I think she liked it. Happy Birthday Ali!

The apprentice ;)

So...pretty much...I feel I drag my little sister Lani into "helping" me with all of these cakes. We went to Missouri to visit my dad who's health has been declining fast. While we were there, she came up with the idea, plan & execution of these cakes for Eli's 8th birthday. WOW right? These were done without all of my many tools, with the oppressive Missouri heat and humidity, and all in one day! The apprentice will supersede the master I'm sure :).

TRON

My friend Angie's boy (who has about the best name around...JAVIN FLASH DAVIS) asked Lani and I himself if we could make him a Tron cake for his big 8th birthday. Of course we said..."sure"... even though we had no idea what "Tron" was about. Wow! We found nothing for inspiration in the way of toys at the store. The only thing we found were internet photo's from IMDB. But, we worked it out. We made the bikes & bikers out of PVC pipe, wood dowels and wire with layers and layers of black gum paste over the top. The cake was easy. The bikes and bikers were not... but again it makes me realize that anything can be made with a little ingenuity and gum paste :)

The baby grand :)

Barbara's daughter, Tanya, asked me to make a grooms cake for her in the shape of a baby grand piano. I'm always up for a challenge:) This was my first time making people out of modeling chocolate. What a task! & what fun!!!
